A Bit About Me

BDL Framing was established in 2011 shortly after I had attended a picture framing course run by Leeds City College.

I’ve always been interested in art and design from an early age and I studied technical drawing and design at school and into further education. Upon leaving further education I worked in technical design roles for a variety of companies in the interior fit out sector. I spent many years working on retail, hospitality, domestic and office projects before moving into the museum and exhibition sector in later years.

Setting up as a picture framer combined both my passion for art and design with my expertise in technical design and interiors.

I still carry out CAD (computer aided design) work as Burnham Design, but on a much reduced basis as the picture framing has now become my predominant business focus.

I wouldn’t consider myself a practising artist at present – the picture framing keeps me too well occupied – but in the past I’ve dabbled in many different forms of art – especially printmaking which I consider my favourite form of art.

I’ve been a regular visitor to galleries, exhibitions and art events throughout the region for many years and I am very active in the local arts scene.

Currently, I fulfil the role of Treasurer for Holmfirth Artweek – a long running and very popular art exhibition which raises money for good causes and which is held annually during the first full week of July. My involvement with Artweek goes back several years and it’s something I’m very proud and passionate about.

My sister also runs the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Show – a big annual event held in Manchester – and I’ve also assisted with this every year since its inception helping with the planning and running of the event.

In the past I was also involved on the board and with helping out at West Yorkshire Print Workshop in Mirfield, which is predominantly where my interest in printmaking and my path to picture framing began.

I like to think that my background and passion for art is a big asset in what I do as a picture framer. I enjoy working with customers to create the best framing solutions and take much pride in my work. The majority of my work tends to come from customer referrals and I have many repeat customers who often become good friends.
